Your patience has finally payed off – Star Wars Battlefront 2 is out! One of the most anticipated titles of 2017 is finally released, and in this review we’re sharing our gameplay experience. Without further ado, here are the main features and what you can expect from the game.
The Singleplayer Mode
SW: Battlefront 2 storyline is set somewhere in between the Return Of The Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens movies. After the destruction of Death Star II, Imperials are trying to regain composure in their struggle against the Rebel Alliance.
The main character you get to play in single-player mode is Iden Versio, commander of a special Imperial Unit. Iden Versio is basically a hot spy who does secret missions with her squad. In the aftermath of Palpatine’s and Vader’s fall, she has to choose between the Empire and the Rebellion, and her choice is not an easy one.
This inner conflict is followed by 5-6 hours of solid gameplay, and a pretty interesting story. It contains some recognizable movie locations, and features some main charactes of the whole SW franchise as well.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Multiplayer
As you’re probably aware, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is all about multiplayer action. This is really where the game shines. There are 14 awesome multiplayer maps, and a whooping 40 players can play at once on a single map.
As far as playable characters are concerned, there are all the hero characters from the movies – Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Emperor, Vader, Boba Fett, Kylo Ren and many more.
All of them have a unique playing style which makes the replayeability value of the game sky high. There are also standard ground troops to choose from, with various weapon, gear and skill upgrades available.
There’s nothing better than pitting a TIE fighter against some Rebel noobs. The experience has been amplified in SW: Battlefront II creating a very entertaining experience. You also acquire Battle Points for conquering opponents, which you can use to upgrade your spacecraft or to unlock new and better ones.
There is one minor issue that some players have been complaining about. It’s the player progression based on the loot system. Basically, as you dominate your enemies, you get a special SW currency that you can use to upgrade your character. But this currency can only be used to open special crates, and you can’t know what upgrade you’re gonna get.
So it’s basically like rolling a dice. This can cause some frustration, depending on your luck. Some players get pretty lucky and progress much further than others in a short time, but you can never know for sure. You can also buy these credits with real money, but you will again be limited to rolling the dice.
Arcade Mode & Heroes vs. Villains Mode
The game also features these two very entertaining modes. Arcade mode allows you to fight against AI bots across different maps. As you progress through this mode, the levels get increasingly harder and you get to unlock new features.
Heroes vs. Villains mode pits you in a Light Side vs. Dark Side scenario where you get to choose only the hero characters. This is arguably the best part of the game, aside from fighting in multiplayer with some good pals.
Visuals & Sound
The graphics of Star Wars Battlefront II are what you would expect from a next-gen title. The enviroment looks dashing, and fighting and movement of the characters is spot on.
The sound of lasers beams passing close to your head are quite realistic, and the voice-overs of the main characters will have you feeling like you’re in the theater. On this front, Star Wars games have always stood out from the crowd and that tradition has been confirmed yet again.
Star Wars Battefront 2 is a great addition to the Star Wars Universe. There are some minor issues, mainly the player progression and a few minor bugs that can occur in the space fights. These will probably be resolved with the next patch. All the other aspects have been spot on.
The unique SW gameplay, visuals and storyline, coupled with the unique hero characters we’ve all fallen in love with over the years make this game a special treat. So if you’re a SW fan looking for a game that will spice up your holidays, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is definitely the right choice.
